2021.12.02 10:17 kamidros Arris M900 Security Build

Hello everyone,
I'm a bit new to custom built drones and stumbled upon the Arris M900 platform. Specifically, this drone.
I wish to request the included camera be replaced with the Tarot Peeper gimbal, as the drone will be used for surveillance. Is there someone with more experience that can tell me what effects this may have on flight time? Any cons to attempting this?

2021.12.02 10:17 BossDude29 Is there any reason to get an Arcade1up Pinball?

The Legends Pinball is $50 cheaper, has a better screen, allows adding your own tables, and is a little bigger. The only argument I could see is the side art looking better or preferring the Star Wars/Marvel tables. I'll never understand why Arcade1up thinks that they can charge more when it's arguably inferior to the Legends Pinball.

2021.12.02 10:17 Equivalent-Charge521 A lithuanian that is interested in learning the Latvian language

Sveiki! Last summer I was on a trip to Latvia and enjoyed the trip, after that I became interested in the Latvian language, we share a lot of similarities and the people are nice.
Anyone know any resources for learning latvian (textbooks etc.)?
Also, I have a question for lithuanians who have learned latvian to some extent: kaip jūs sugebėjotę išmokti latvių kalbą, ką maždaug naudojote išmokti? Ar yra gerų resursų lietuvių kalba (el. žodynas, vadovėlis ar pan.)?
Also, I plan to travel to Latvia once again next summer, and I'll try to talk to some of the locals there! Thank you.

2021.12.02 10:17 Spotted_Blewit Sad story of nightmare publishing experience due to the gross incompetence of Biddles Books Ltd (UK)

I am an independent publisher. I have spent 6 years working on a 512-page full-colour reference book, designed to be a market-leading book. This post is a full disclosure of why we have been unable to ship pre-orders before Christmas, and serves as a warning to any other small publisher about the totally incompetent behaviour of one Nigel Mitchell and his shambolic company: Biddles Books Ltd.
Biddles were historically a printer of high repute (in England), but much more recently they have become a “print manager” – that is they no longer print books themselves but act as a broker between the publishers and printers. Their job is to get the price down, and to manage the print process. That means that as a publisher, I had to rely on Biddles to manage that print process in a professional manner. They were well aware that this was a high-profile book, and that they needed to get this right. Not only did they get it horribly wrong, but five days after supplying us with 4000 books which are clearly the wrong size, with important design features cropped off, they have refused to offer to make good the defective work. Instead, we have been subjected to five days of Nigel Mitchell’s excuses. This has now forced us to arrange for the books to be printed (properly this time) elsewhere, and pursue them through the courts for the full £16,000 we have paid them.
Here is what happened. When a book is designed, it is impossible for the designer to know what the spine width will be, because this has to be calculated by the printer, based on page count, weight of paper, and binding type. Mr Mitchell took a long time to provide this information – he spent two weeks demanding a deposit for the work without providing it, and it wasn’t until I refused to pay that first £8000 that he hurriedly came up with a figure of 30mm. The covers were therefore designed to this size, and the artwork supplied.
The first hint of a serious problem was when Nigel Mitchell phoned a few days later to tell us of a delay. “The insides of the books have been printed and bound, and all look good”, he said, “but the covers have been printed wrong. They don’t always reach all the way around. But don’t worry! They are going to be reprinted and everything will be OK.” A while after this call it occurred to me that he had not asked me to resupply the cover graphics, so I phoned him up and asked him what the point was in reprinting covers unless the new covers were a new size. After a long pause, he replied that the printers had modified the PDF themselves! We had not been asked about this. I asked him what the new spine width is. He said he would get back to me with a copy of the modified PDF, and the correct spine width. Neither of these things have happened – in fact he still hasn’t specified the “corrected” spine width.
Last Thursday (Nov 25th) the books were delivered to Central Books in Romford, and on Friday I personally collected 350 of them in order to get the pre-orders moving. The first thing I did when getting them home was to take a copy to the designer, at which point it became clear that something had gone seriously wrong. The books were 2mm short in width, taking out nearly all of the colour bar. This makes them look unprofessional – nobody would have designed a book like that, because a 1mm colour bar clearly shows the natural variation in page width. Where had this 2mm gone?
We phoned Nigel Mitchell. If bullshitting was an olympic sport then Nigel Mitchell would make the UK team. He tried telling us we were naïve to believe a 3mm colour bar was enough, and various other explanations of why this was our fault, or the designer’s fault. He also tried claiming that the book on his desk was not the same size as ours, and that maybe not the entire print run was affected. None of this worked. We demanded a reprint of all defective copies, as is clearly our right according to Biddles’ standard contract. We also kept asking him to provide the correct spine width, but Nigel just kept pretending he hadn’t heard that question. He just kept saying he had no idea what went wrong, and that he couldn’t get any answers out of the printers (as if that is our problem).
You don’t need to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out what really happened. We still don’t know the exact details, but we suspect it goes something like this. The spine width was wrongly calculated – we have measured it on the finished misprinted books, and it is 32mm, not 30mm. So the cover graphics were the wrong size, and this was not checked before all 4000 had been printed. No graphics were adjusted, and the covers were not reprinted. Instead, somebody – and I think it is fair to assume it was Nigel Mitchell – took the decision to use the misprinted covers for the entire print run. Because there is an image change where the spine meets the back, that point had to be fixed, which meant the back covers matched the size of the book, but the front covers were now 2mm too short. And the only way to fix that is to shave 2mm off the width of the book. We were not consulted about any of this – had I been dealing directly with a printer, I would have ensured it didn’t happen, but because Biddles are a middle-man they were directly and completely responsible for managing this process.
We believe what happened was that Nigel Mitchell failed to supply the correct spine width, failed to check it on a proof, then when 4000 covers had been misprinted he decided to try to save the money it would have cost to reprint them, even though this risked much more serious problems later. He gambled that we would not notice the problem until seven days had passed and/or a significant number of copies had been shipped, at which point an escape clause in the contract would have got him off the hook. We would have had to accept the substandard manufacturing, on a project which I’ve put 6 years of hard work and a lot of money into. It was absolutely perfect until Nigel Mitchell did his best to ruin it. Fortunately we can afford to rectify the problem in time for the release date, and recover the money from Biddles later through due legal process.
The last email we received from Nigel Mitchell (yesterday) was this:
“Just to tell you what has occurred today. I have had a further 3 conversations with the sales director at the printers and they still will not commit to a reprint, obviously there is a huge amount of money involved. Tomorrow I will be speaking to one of the owners of the company re-iterating again that the books have not been trimmed to the size as ordered and there was no advice given to any issues. I will come back to you as soon as I have had a word with him. [snip irrelevant bullshit] I will come back to you tomorrow with an update. I can only say with such a large amount of money involved getting people to agree to a reprint is sometimes not plain sailing.”
Well, quite. Even when they are very obviously culpable and facing even greater losses if they don’t capitulate. I made it crystal clear to Nigel Mitchell that if he did not agree to reprint the books by 12 midday today that we would be forced to get them reprinted by a third party, pursue them through the courts for the £16,000 Biddles Books owes us, and that I would also make a full public disclosure of everything he has done. I want to make sure Nigel Mitchell never gets the opportunity to do to any other small or independent publisher what he has done to us, either as Biddles Books Ltd or as Nigel “wide boy” Mitchell.
